Thomas A. Spain An architect, recently retired from the University of Miami School of Architecture where he’d been a faculty member since 1966. His devotion to teaching design and drawing has left an indelible impact on the students he taught over the past two generations. Known on campus for his drawings of Rome, through his almost yearly visits from 1991 to 2014 with his students, Spain’s brilliant collection of work focuses on memorable locations, revisited and redrawn over the years. Spain’s fine art series is the architect’s most labored and personal work. It focuses on Coral Gables, the “City Beautiful” suburb of Miami, and Spain’s home, developed by George Merrick in the 19204. Spain, diverse in its choice of medium, alternates between pencil, watercolor, and pastel. In the watercolor series, unexpected attention is given to utilitarian parts of buildings, resulting in provocative, idealized compositions.

Peter Kastan’s website “The journey into photography” began in childhood when receiving a Brownie one Christmas, sparking a lifelong passion for capturing moments. His wanderlust ignited during an opportune moment years ago when a friend’s kind offer of dog-sitting in exchange for travel passes kickstarted his global explorations. Over the years, Peter circumnavigated the globe 4-5 times, with Asia and India holding a special place in his heart for their simplicity and joyfulness. Today, Peter resides on the tranquil shores of the Indian River Lagoon of Eau Gallie in Central Florida with his wife, whom he met over 25 years ago during his travels in Vietnam and their son. “As a traveler, eater, and sleeper, with my camera as a constant companion, my goal is for viewers to linger, look closely, and find enjoyment. If they do, then I consider my work a success.”

Andrea Colusso was Born in Rome in 1957, graduated from Liceo Artistico in Via Ripetta in 1975, and from the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Roma in 1989 in scenography. Worked from 1989 to 1995 in theater collaborating with Pino-Quartullo, Sergio-Ammirata, and Pietro de Silva. Afterwards worked as a sculptor in set design studios. Since he was young, he had a propensity for drawing, using colored pencils and watercolors until he achieved a mix of different materials, and effects that would evolve in his painting and sculpture technique. As shown in collaboration with Miami’s sustainable furniture design project, Morto A Galla and AnEyeDiary, his work evolved in time with projects “Strani Pianeti” (Strange Planets), and “Collezione Spazio”. (Space Collection) and “Mappe Stellari” (Star Maps).

Juliana Bukowitz Born in Rio de Janeiro, now Miami-based mixed media artist Juliana Bukowitz, was raised amongst musicians. Her initial exposure to art being purely auditory, Bukowitz quickly developed a fascination, not for mixed media art, but for the philosophical perspective that art could be a mixed media exploration of the human psyche. Her exhibit for AnEyeDiary Summer Show is a sampling of the philosophies expressed through her artistic journey, her anthropological pursuits, and her roles as a teacher and mother. Bukowitz has an intimate, innate understanding of the manner in which art is not only our expression but our legacy. Her work is intended to be that which withstand the test of time while being representative of her being as an individual.
